As a Construction Safety Officer for Kelson Group, your work is to deliver an outstanding commitment to safety along with the ability to do labour associated with residential apartment complex(s) construction.
Job Summary:
The Construction Safety Officer (CSO) is responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations on construction sites. The CSO will oversee safety protocols, conduct inspections, and promote a culture of safety among workers and subcontractors. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction safety regulations and the ability to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Compliance & Oversight
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with local, provincial, and federal safety regulations, including WorkSafeBC and OH&S requirements.
- Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to identify potential risks and implement corrective measures.
- Monitor compliance with safety procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and site safety rules.
- Enforce adherence to company safety policies and procedures, issuing warnings or stop-work orders when necessary.
Incident Prevention & Response
- Develop and implement site-specific safety plans to prevent workplace accidents and injuries.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending preventive measures.
- Coordinate emergency response procedures and ensure all workers are familiar with evacuation plans and first aid protocols.
- Assist in managing workers' compensation claims and return-to-work programs.
Training & Education
- Conduct safety orientation sessions for new workers and subcontractors.
- Provide ongoing training on workplace safety practices, hazard recognition, and emergency response.
- Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and workshops to promote awareness and compliance.
- Maintain up-to-date records of safety training and certifications for all site personnel.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit compliance reports to regulatory authorities as required.
- Ensure that safety signage, hazard communication, and documentation are up to date and visible at all times.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Certification:
- Certified Construction Safety Officer (CSO) designation or equivalent.
- Minimum Gr 12 diploma / GED and at least 2 years of related construction experience.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be bondable.
- WorkSafe BC OFA3 Certification and experience working as an OFA3
- Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, WHMIS, and other relevant safety certifications are an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in construction safety or a related field.
- Experience working on commercial, residential, or industrial construction sites.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to enforce safety policies and procedures effectively.
- Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and implement proactive safety measures.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
