Heatheridge Estates

EDMONTON--Kelson Group Property Management has been committed to an open dialogue with residents, fire officials and insurance investigators following the January 19 fire at Heatheridge Estates. That commitment will remain as we await a final report over the coming weeks.

Timothy Wilson, Public Information Officer for the City of Edmonton Fire Rescue department reported initial findings today stating the fire started during a repair on a copper line in the building’s boiler room when a plumber’s torch came into contact with insulation.  Consequently, the fire spread to other areas and resulted in the loss of the building.

While we await the final report from the Fire Rescue department along with our insurance company’s own investigation into this matter we are committed over the coming months to reviewing our emergency systems and processes within our properties.

If there is anything that can be learned from this review, we will share these results with the City of Edmonton and other multi-family facility owners and managers through the Edmonton Apartment Association and its other professional affiliations in order to prevent a similar event in a similar kind of facility in the future. We will also communicate with residents on our review of fire safety systems and processes.

We deeply regret that residents in the 82 suites have lost their homes. In support of the displaced residents, we have provided over $90,000 in immediate funds (damage deposits and January rent reimbursement) to assist with residents with relocation and replacement of personal necessities.
